Motor vehicles and driving licences

For information on motor vehicle procedures, refer to the related section of the Consular Services Guide of the Ministry of External Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Consulate General does not issue driving licenses of any kind. It is only competent for issuing certificates of extension of validity of driving licenses.

The Consulate General cannot issue international driving licenses, which will have to be requested in the same place of issuing of the ordinary driving license.

 

Extension of validity of driving licenses

For the issuance of the certificate of extension of driving license it is necessary to book an appointment writing to bangalore.consolare@esteri.it, having previously collected the following documents:

1)  medical certificate issued by the medical doctor appointed by this Consulate General*;

2) application form, duly filled;

3)  driving license, expired by no more than 5 years;

4) 2 passport-size photographs;

5) a copy of the passport.

The applicant shall pay the consular fee (Extension: 50 Euro). In order to calculate the total amount, which shall be paid only in cash in Indian Rupees, please see the following fees table and exchange rate decree published by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.

Please note that the certificate of extension is valid only while the holder is resident abroad. In case of return to Italy, they will have to address the competent authorities in Italy on the matter. 

*  The medical certificate shall follow the prescribed form and shall be issued by the appointed medical doctor. In order to contact the doctor, please write to bangalore.consolare@esteri.it.
