Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)

For information regarding travel documents, please refer to the related section of the Consular Services Guide of the Ministry of External Affairs and International Cooperation.

If you are registered with AIRE , the Italian consular representations can issue a provisional travel document (ETD – Emergency Travel Document) with a maximum validity of 5 days from the date of issue and valid only for return to Italy or abroad in the country of residence.

In order to apply for ETD it is necessary to contact the Consular Section by e-mail (bangalore.consolare@esteri.it) sending copy of the below listed documents:

  • report of theft or loss of passport submitted at the local territorial Police authorities;
  • filled in and Signed Application Form;
  • in case of minors, the form has to be filled in and signed by the parents
  • 2 passport size colour photos (frontal, 3.5 x 4 cm).
  • flight ticket with confirmed travel date;
  • if possible, copy of the lost/stolen passport or copy of any other photo identity card or, in alternative, presence of a witness, holder of a valid identity document, confirming the identity of the applicant.

NOTE – The identity of the applicant must be demonstrated through photocopies of the lost or stolen identity document, or with other documents containing personal data, photos and signature (e.g. driving license) or, again, by a declaration made by at least one witness (the witness must be of age and must be provided with a valid identity document – that is, an identity card or passport).

If none of these options is practicable, the consular representation may request confirmation of the personal data of the person to the Italian municipality of residence, but this verification may require long processing times.

Unaccompanied minors – For minors not accompanied by their parents, the accompanying declaration indicating the name of the adult to whom they are entrusted or the consent of the parents must be submitted, accompanied by a copy of the latter’s documents.

FEES
The cost of an ETD is 1.55 Euro to be paid only in cash in Indian Rupees, please see the following fees table and exchange rate decree published by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.
